Teaching and Learning Small Grants
ECU offers academics the opportunity each year to apply for a Teaching and Learning Small Grant to help finance a project initiative that has some benefit to teaching and learning as the primary outcome.
Nature of the Award
These small grants are intended to help academics to foster some aspect of there own teaching with the express purpose of improving student learning.
Examples of how these grants could be used include buying equipment (except computers), 'buying out' teaching or marking time (provided that the Head of School approves) or resourcing a new or innovative approach to teaching.
Each year the Centre for Learning & Teaching (with Associate Dean T&L input) sets a list of priority target areas for these grants. The primary focus however is on improved learning outcomes for students.
Eligibility
Any academic working at ECU is eligible.
Selection Process
The Teaching and Learning Small Grant Scheme opens in May each year and selections are usually complete by the end of June. Selection is done at Faculty level by a Faculty chosen selection panel. Faculties then manage the dispersion of funds throughout the year of operation. The Associate Dean (Academic Programs) is responsible for managing the scheme at the Faculty level.
Reporting
Each successful candidate is expected to submit a verbal interim report and a final report to the relevant Associate Dean. A copy of the final report is returned to Learning Development Services for evaluation of the funding scheme.
Dissemination of Outcomes
Successful candidates are expected to indicate how they will share the benefits of their project with their colleagues at ECU. Applications with broader appeal will be preferred in the selection process.
Guidelines and Application Forms
Applications for 2008/9 grants are now closed.
