Professional Practice at ECU South West

Professional Practice is a key component of all Education courses whether Primary, Primary to Middle Years or Graduate Diploma of Education. This practical experience provides essential opportunities to connect theory with practice and develop the knowledge, dispositions, understandings and competencies of a beginning teacher under the guidance of experienced professionals.

All students are required to be available during the scheduled Professional Practice periods as per the Professional Practice Calendar available on this website.

All students will need to regularly check Blackboard and their ECU student email for announcements regarding Professional Practice.

While on Professional Practice, all students are required to adhere to the School of Education's Professional Practice Rules and Procedures and Code of Professional Conduct for ECU Pre-service Teachers which can be accessed on this website.

Course specific details regarding Professional Practice can be accessed via the individual course entries on this website.

A message from the Professional Practice Coordinator
Having spent 10 years in both Primary and Secondary Education both as a teacher and administrator, I am certainly well briefed on current educational issues, school structures and the demanding climate graduate teachers are expected to operate within once they begin their careers.  I look forward to being able to assist Pre-service teachers and ensuring their Professional Practices are challenging, worthwhile and very enjoyable.

Teaching is a noble profession as we are granted a unique opportunity to impact on many lives.  Please feel welcome to see me regarding any of your concerns throughout the year.

Kind Regards,
Mark Cummins
