The Bachelor of Education (Primary) is a dynamic course, incorporating proven contemporary teaching strategies, use of ICT and substantial practical experience, which qualifies graduates to teach junior, middle and upper primary students in government and non-government schools across Australia. Graduates with this qualification are also sought overseas.
The award is granted after the successful completion of four years of fulltime study (or up to eight years of part-time study) and aims to develop essential knowledge about effective teaching, professional knowledge, dispositions and professional competencies through the study of units in education, literacy and numeracy, curriculum, and pedagogical studies, work place learning and specialisations.

All courses require students to have a criminal track clearance prior to entering schools on professional practice, http://www.education.ecu.edu.au/prac/ . In addition students will be required to meet requirements of the Working with Children (Criminal Record Checking) Act 2004 http://www.checkwwc.wa.gov.au/Employees/default.htm.

COURSE STRUCTURE
The Bachelor of Education (Primary) is a 480 credit point degree.
Please note the following:
1. The Bachelor of Education (Primary) is recognised by the Western Australian College of Teaching as meeting the requirements for registration as a teacher in Western Australia.
2. Catholic Education Accreditation to teach Religious Education requires three units in Catholic Education Studies.
3. In each year of the program, students undertake a work place learning experience.
4. This course has been designed to meet the needs of students wishing to fast track their studies.
5. Opportunities exist for students to complete a semester overseas through the Study Abroad Program.
6. In the fourth year, students undertake an Assistant Teacher Program (ATP) comprising one term of approximately ten weeks of continuous teaching practice. The Assistant Teacher Program is conducted during the seventh semester of the course in the second term of the school year.
7. All students enrolled in the Bachelor of Education (Primary) are required to demonstrate competency in literacy and numeracy.
8. In the third and fourth years of the course students may focus on special education in order to meet accreditation expectations of DETWA in relation to teaching children with special needs.
