Short Professional Biography:
Sandra is an experienced primary school teacher who has worked as a teacher, researcher and lecturer for over 25 years. Since 1998 she has been a teacher educator, mainly teaching Society & Environment, in the Education Program at Edith Cowan University 's South West Campus. She is also currently a Research Associate with the Institute of Sustainability and Technology Policy at Murdoch University . In 2004 she took an exchange position at Dalyellup Primary School , where she taught a wonderful group of year 7 children. Her research interests include Education for Sustainability, Environmental Education, Society & Environment, Ecological Literacy and Noongar Language and Culture.
Sandra has taught in a variety of Western Australian schools in city, regional and remote locations. In the early to mid 1980s she worked in the Northern Territory as an education officer based at Alice Springs followed by Darwin , and then she worked as a teacher educator at Batchelor College . She established, taught and researched with the Noongar Language and Culture Centre in Bunbury from 1986/7 to 1990, and worked as a lecturer/coordinator at Kurongkurl Katijin School of Aboriginal Studies at Edith Cowan University 's South West Campus from 1991 to 1994.
Industry Commercial Experience and Industry Links:
Sandra is currently engaged in considerable research activity around the topic of learning sustainability. A large current project involves four schools, a corporation and the Australian Association for Environmental Education's South West Chapter who formed a collaborative partnership to install sustainable energy technology in each of the schools. The intention is to develop education and research designed to enhance knowledge of learning sustainability. Sandra is also working collaboratively with Edwina Woodhouse in grade five at Dalyellup Primary School . They are using an action research methodology to develop 'LinkingThinking' ( Sterling , 2005) through cultural studies in Society & Environment, to produce learning sustainability outcomes.
Other projects Sandra is involved in are co-convening the National Conference of Environmental Education to be held in Bunbury in 2006; collaboratively developing a series of teacher education Society & Environment webquests through an ECU Teaching/Learning Grant; and developing a Graduate Certificate in Education for Sustainability. Sandra is also actively involved as a committee member with the South West Chapter of the Australian Association of Environmental Education and the Capel Land Care District Committee (LCDC). She is an academic staff representative on the Edith Cowan University 's Environment Committee.

- Thelma Harley-Brown Prize for Best Masters with Honours (Murdoch, 1994).
Group Awards:
- State 3R 2001 Award: Tertiary Institution Award (To ECU South West Campus (Bunbury) for an environmental education project conducted by my students and me).
- The Australian Science Teachers' Association awarded a Certificate of Excellence to my Bunbury Community School class for a children's research project (1997).
