Sharelle Potter's speech from the reunion:
As I was walking to my car from classes just this week I had to make a short cut across our oval and I unwittingly disturbed a young family of kangaroos who were grazing there, but who were nonetheless pretty much totally unfazed by my presence. I took a moment to reflect on this sight, and wondered where the students would be, if any place at all, in Australia, or indeed the world, who would be so fortunate as to experience a moment such as this on their university campus.

This is just one of the small experiences that have made Bunbury ECU such a superb campus to embark on one's tertiary education. The atmosphere of being surrounded by nature, of tranquility, and dare I say it, how's the serenity, is one that is conducive to a student life that is harmonious and fruitful.

This is my third year as a student studying as ECU Bunbury, across two different degrees, neither one finished yet, or even really that close. After my first year of studying I transferred my studies to ECU Mt Lawley to do "the Perth thing" quite the trendy thing to do. Whilst I enjoyed some of the social benefits the some ten times larger campus had to offer, I couldn't believe how much we had taken for granted how good we have it here at Bunbury ECU. The rapport and relationships you are able to establish with lecturers and tutors, the gorgeous surroundings and the support, respect and friendliness that as a student you are able to receive from every person associated with the university are qualities that are not necessarily inherent in university life as I had assumed, but cultivated and nurtured. The quality of the education offered at Bunbury ECU and the opportunities that abound for students in spite, and probably because of, our small numbers compared to our city cousins are first rate. Needless to say, I returned very quickly to life here at Bunbury ECU. And whilst I'm definitely not dragging my feet to get my degree finished, I love that I will get to continue my education in an environment that is as professional as it is pleasurable.

Twenty years of serving as a tertiary institution in a regionally based environment really is a fabulous achievement. There undoubtedly will have been times of turbulence, times of success, times of difficulty and times of triumph across that double decade. I am so pleased that I am getting the opportunity to formally acknowledge the faces behind such times; the staff at Bunbury ECU. I cannot commend enough the wonderful people who put in so much time, effort, hard work and commitment into keeping Bunbury ECU the lovely place it is to be and providing such quality education to every student here. From administration to the library, from faculty services to the bookshop, from the guild to the teaching staff, as a student, it is so appreciated to be able to be treated with so much respect, consideration and responsiveness in what can, at stages, be very trying times. And I can't forget the IT crew, Bless your hearts boys, you're life savers. But on a serious note, the contribution of all of the staff to our lives at university is immeasurable and treasured. For you guys to know our names, genuinely care about our welfare and see us as valuable contributors to tertiary education may be small tasks to you but are of enormous worth to us and I thank all of you on behalf of the students here.

In summation, I would just like to say a big congratulations to ECU Bunbury on their twentieth anniversary celebrations and everyone who has contributed to the past twenty years in order to make ECU Bunbury the wonderful place it is today.
